Actually, this seems a good discussion, redefining the etiquette and
bringing up a lot of good points. I know this is a music list but I don't
think its all bad to point out certain annoyances once in a while. At least
its better than getting disgusted and unsubscribing.

As fer quote/unquote spam, when joining a list like this, you should expect
a certain amount of promotion from people, especially on this list since its
worldwide. And while peeps biggin' up their own parties may not be modest,
I think is far from the green eggs and spam 'how to make a lot of money at
home' or 'free xxx photos' type of mail. As one person put it, I don't mind
hearing what's going on in other cities, tho putting the area in the subject
is a good idea.

My other take is the delete key. Quite handy. While I agree with Mark
about people posting who don't subscribe, I'm sure these situations will
happen with other promoters. If you see somebody like Andrew who tends not
to contribute, recognize their name and delete 'im if it gets to ya. To me,
its not that big a deal, and worth it for the messages I do read on this
list...
