Yes, indeed there's lots of funky breaks on those afro funk compilations.
The 'Africa Funk' compilation has Manu Dibango's Soul Makossa which has one
of the alltime classic breaks as used by the Jungle Brothers and many more.
I would recommend picking up a Lafayette Afro Rock comp as well (maybe
Darkest Light) as there are tons of classic and also not-so-classic drum
sounds... Nothing comes to mind on the Racubah comp (though I think the
aforementioned Oneness of Ju JU song is on that one), the ClubAfrica has a
couple of nice ones, though the nicest one has already been turned into a
track which I have heard being played around town.
hope this helps

Subject: oneness of JUJU
dear list: Just got the reissue of ONE OF JU JU "African Rhythms" lp> Bandg
the first cut(the titl cut actually) has a break. Now do any of the other
"African Funk" comps like Racubah and others have this type of North
anmerican style funky drum break. I know many people call things "funky"
that a hip hopper wouldnt . In this case this break beat was funky in the
bronx-style sense. I stayed off the african stuff, even after reading about
it here, because while being "danceable ", it may have not been usable like
say the "apache " break. With this in mind do you know of any of the
afrocomps at WWW.dustygroove.com like this?
