I think you are doing the right thing. Alll good records shop I've ever been
in had listening stations of some sort. you have no idea of how many times i
stumble into a store (in europe or north america) and find something
interesting - but i'm not sure of it. not sur if it is what i think it is or
whatever. do what gramaphone records in chicago does. Have 1 master "player"
copy of wax for each major new 12" release (not albums - i don't go that far).
You can spare one copy being handled a bit - sell it for half-off in a couple
weeks. cds will be ok with a few playings. i don'e think the problem is as big
as you say it is - and you can't count "missed buys" where someone picks up
something, looks at the back and thinks "i think this is good."
most folks do take my music shopping seriously.
