hi,
Sorry to clock in with the sad confirmation, but yes, C.O.T. (and sister
labels Milk and Uppercut) is now defunct. As with many, many indie labels
out there, they went through some difficult times. Most of the artists
formerly with the label are with (or are looking for) new homes, so all is
not lost. It's also not impossible that Pip, the former C.O.T. head/owner
may release other stuff in future.
As for Purple Penguin - the record store - it's absolutely still open,
running and stocking some amazing stuff (not that I get to peruse their
bins with any regularity ^_^). It's owned by Ben Dubuisson of PP, who by
the way has been working on some excellent new hip hop tracks that are
likely to come out under a different project/band name. I'll happily keep
the list posted when I hear more from him. Actually, any Fly-types still
out there that would know even more current news?
Also, for Cup fans out there, I've also gotta mention the new Mr. Scruff
album 'Keep It Unreal' which recently came out on Ninjatune and is an
excellent selection of funky beats & breaks.... lots of humour as
well...perhaps his most solid release to date.
C'est tout pour la moment.
