M.E.L.T. 2000 is an *extremely* eclectic label. They started
out as B&W Music, releasing mostly (innocuous) jazz, but a few
years back owner Robert Trunz had some kind of epiphany and
started concentrating on African/jazz hybrids. This lead to
remixes of said hybrids, and before you could say "Musical
Energy & Loud Truth Beyond 2000," they had changed their name
to M.E.L.T. 2000 and began releasing MUSIC WITH NO NAME (two
compilations to date). There's a pretty snazzy web site at
www.melt2000.com, with lots more info, music, catalogs, etc.

The Smadj release is more on the drum'n'bass tip than anything,
but like most M.E.L.T. 2000 releases it has a very organic
feel because of the live instrumentation. It's not really like
anything else I can think of, and I highly recommend it.

BTW there is a fairly new offshoot of M.E.L.T. 2000 that concen-
trates on more electronic sounds: Electric M.E.L.T.
