Mark,
The Counts cut a couple of records in the early 70s. The one you have is certainly their best and best-known; others can be kinda weak. I have the 1974 Love Sign LP which has maybe one funky cut.
They were originally known as the Fabulous Counts, and had a funky 45 classic called "Get Down People"/"Lunar Funk" both of which have been featured on the Funky Jams (Hubbub Records) and Sound of Funk (Goldmine Records) compilations. What caused them to change names, I don't know.
Some of the members (Mose Davis and Leroy Emmanuel) also backed disco star Hamilton Bohannon ("Let's Start the Dance," "South African Man," "Disco Stomp," etc.)
Hope this helps!
Anthony
