I don't know about "Caprice", but "Illicity pt. 2" is
on the CD version of "Solid Water" making the rounds at
the moment. I'm guessing but I'd say that this is a
repress, with the four remixes it is pretty much album
length. Shame on Sonar Kollektiv for cheating the vinyl
buyers, who only receive one extra remix I believe.

"Illicity Pt. 2" is Extended Spirit in drum 'n bass mode.
A pretty standard repetitive beat it matched with a nice
peppy live-sounding bassline and soft chords. Nice percussion
which keeps it speeding along. Not very groundbreaking,
but thoroughly enjoyable and very pleasant.

For a release that offers something to both vinyl and
CD buyers, I wholeheartedly recommend the "Abstract Fusion"
compilation coreleased by Music Is Records and Track Mode
records. Deep jazzy house is the order of the day, with
excellent exclusive stuff from well established names like
Larry Heard, Moodymann, Mike Grant, Jordan Fields and Chris Gray, as
well as new (at least to me) homegrown talent by Brett Dancer,
Chris Energy and Frankie Valentine, who to my surprise is
the only one lately who approaches Ibadan/Spiritual Life
quality sound. Does anyone have any further recommendations
or info about Frankie Valentine?

The vinyl and CD versions feature radically different
tracklistings, which may seem just as evil as those UK 2-part
CD singles, but is really a way to get twice as much good
music out there.
