Have you actually heard The Carnival? It's a pretty great album.
It's got probably the best opera loop I've heard in a hip-hop song
("Apocalypse", loosely based on Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at
Owl Creek Bridge"-- & hey, I'd love to hear of better hip-hopera
melanges, bring 'em on!), & the rootsy, Haitian/Reggae (? pardon the
ignorance) folksongs really fit in nicely. Bonus points for sampling
Manu Dibango, & I the non-Dylan version of "Gone Til November" is
quite fine. "Anything Can Happen" is a great tune, there's an ace
cover of "Guantanamera", & the skits are kinda funny!! As usual, the
most ass song is the first into heavy rotation, but damn, why's
everyone playa hate 'Clef so much?
Speaking of opera + hip-hop, wasn't there supposed to be a
compilation of just that released a few years back? Oh, my girlfren
just told me, it's call Rapsody (sp?) Anyone heard it?
