Hi All,
These are two of the *very* few CDs I've bought recently, so funny that they
should both be mentioned on the list this morning.
OUT OF SIGHT - David Holmes
The soundtrack to Out Of Sight I like very much. Mostly David Holmes' stuff
plus a couple of the tunes that pop up in the film - 2 tracks by the Isley
brothers, the Willie Bobo one, and a crazy version of the One-Note Samba. My
feeling is that the DH tracks are like a 90s take on 70s action film
soundtracks. Nice Fender Rhodes over the top of drum loops and bass grooves.
I guess if you've seen the film you'll know the type of stuff. It's a great
record in itself although if you hadn't seen the film some of the other
tracks might seem a bit out of place. The tracks are all reasonable lengths
too, not just snippets like you get from some soundtrack stuff. Can someone
tell me if DH's other stuff is this good or better?
THE URBAN GROOVES - Down To The Bone.
This is also a great record. I wouldn't say it's a huge departure from the
previous one (From Manhattan To Staten) but good nonetheless. This is what
my idea of acid jazz is I guess - a mix of sampled funk grooves and live
playing. They do it very well. Anyone know if they have anything to do with
Fishbelly Black? A freind made a tape of FBB for me and it seems pretty
similar.
BTW, my girlfried requested to borrow both these albums so they get the
thumbs up from her as well :-).
Seeya,
Al.
