for their musicianship, but this twelve-year-old
Philadelphia (aka Illadelphia) outfit
uses real instruments to create an authentically
funky,
quintessentially musical (as opposed to digital)
backdrop.
Principal members Black Thought (lyrics) and ?uestlove
(drums) describe the Roots as the world's first hip hop
"band."
On record, the boys have jammed with saxophonist
Dave Murray ( yay ! ) and jazz vocalist Cassandra
Wilson;
live, they love to cover old rap classics and create
all manner of blissful havoc
