I think I buy ECM releases more that coincide
with my "cinematic" side, and have little to do
with jazz really.
I recommend:
Dino Saluzzi/Rosamunde Quartet- Kultrum
(go see Carlos Saura's "Tango", buy that soundtrack, then buy
this)
Eleni Karaindrou- Eternity and a Day
(disappointing film, but the music is nice, if a little
repetitive)
Eleni Karaindrou- Ulysses' Gaze
(amazing movie, great music)
And the hands down winner of perhaps the all time
coolest record label move:
Jean-Luc Godard- Nouvelle Vague
One of the latest masterpieces is equally fascinating without
the images. If you don't believe me, read the article (reprinted
from fabulous magazine "Trafic" in which a blind woman talks
about her experiences with the films of Godard). Godard works
the sonic angle like no one else, a genius. If you have the
chance to check out his "Histoire(s) du cinéma", by all means
do so, put yourself in the midst of greatness.
