Not very much help, but you might want to look into history of brazilian
and south american music. I rememeber reading about the merging of
european i.e. spanish and african music i.e. the rhtymn to form salsa
music and most of the brazillian and some of the other south american
musics.
As side question, pardon my ignorance, but what is the history of the
drum. The drum sets you see in bands today where did they start..do they
have relation to african drums, tom-tom, talking drum e.t.c. i.e. cowhide
strecthed over wood with hollow center or whats the story?
