Yes and no; the nature of the bass drum and snare drum is Europen in origin (and
still used the same way in Orchestras) but the modern drum kit is a relatively
modern, American invention. Early jazz bands had more than one drummer, playing
drums orchestra/marching band style (jazz in its most basic form, started as
African music played on European instruments). Eventually, thanks to good old
early 20th century ingenuity, all those drums were consolidated into one
conTRAPtion, hence the drum kit, or the "trap" kit, as some drummers call it; it
was a relatively ergonomic way to play drums couples with the use of pedals to
perform certain functions.
