hasn't been much discussion on the list re: mp3's and other downloadable
music. i started downloading about two years ago, and have picked up many
good tunes in the process--this was when i had dial-up access, mind you. i
now have dsl, and am constantly downloading. [full disclosure-i now work
for a company in the download game (listen.com)]. I use Listen.com for
finding legal files (many free), and have found through listen that lots of
electronic/dance exists at epitonic.com, cductive.com, and emusic.com. as
for files that are not exactly super-legal, i used to lurk around irc
(undernet) where the various scripts (bots, really) made it easy to get new
tracks. how about Napster-a new program that when you log on, you can
search the hard drives of anyone else logged on for music, then
automatically download it (as they can do with music they see on your
harddive); seemingly massive security problem, but then there've been no
reported problems as of yet....Napster's made the music trade association
(in the US) go nuts, and i believe they sued last week. will be interesting
how it plays out...also a site you all'll be thanking me for hipping you to,
mh20.com; the future has come, and it sounds awesome. that's all i will
say; i promise you will all flip out. i have no relationship to napster or
mh20....
totally different question--Supreme Beings of Leisure; anyone know anything
about them? They played a short industry showcase last week in Los Angeles,
and they sounded pretty damn good, in the lamb/morcheeba/esthero sorta mold.
album drops in february on chris blackwell (founder of island records)
label, palm pictures/rykodisc.
if anyone has any questions about the download world, i'd be most happy to
discuss/inform as much as i can--may not be interesting to the list at
large.....
