Andre,
I have been a Brand New Heavies fan forever and everytime they switched
things around I still seemed to enjoy them..until now. While I loved Carleen
Anderson with the Young Disciples and SOME of her solo work I just don't
like her voice with the Heavies. It's too husky and bluesy and I just don't
think it matches the upbeat, party vibe the Heavies have stuck to as their
"core" sound over the years. I may be in the minority but I liked Siedah
Garret's vocals on the last record a lot, I just don't think the songs were
up to par. The new one, "Saturday Night", though makes some of the last
record seem fantastic by comparison. I haven't heard the Heavies cover of
Carleen's Young Disciple classic "Apparently Nothing" but it seems to me a
bad choice. I remember people writing in DJ or SNC at the time that
"Apparently Nothing" was so perfect on it's own it didn't need
remixing...covering it with the same vocalist but a different (though
somewhat similar band) years later seems pointless. Of course I could be
wrong (it happens) and it might be fantastic. We'll see. All in all it looks
like both N'deah and the Heavies have suffered badly from their parting.
Reunion time?
