heya Gen,
I wouldn't hesitate about this album if you're a fan of Kruder, Dormeister,
Tosca or any related projects and sounds. Peter's solo album is definitely
a little darker with less straight up jazz and Latin tones, but jazz is
*definitely* still a major influence. Personally, I think this album is
incredibly beautiful, with a lot of different moods and a ton of different
sounds and (sampled) instruments in the mix. Mostly instrumental, with one
or two tracks containing sampled snippets and one other featuring the
vocals of Kruder's girlfriend...actually an odd, but catchy piece. I can't
say enuff good stuff about this one.....
....and here comes the related plug, which many of you may be interested
in.... I write for a few different mags as well as DJ, and had a chance to
interview Peter a few months after K&D played here in Toronto. Neither of
them do many interviews, but I was lucky 'cause I was also on the bill so
got to spend a bit of time w/ them...... super sweet, nice guys, both
of'em....truly into music.
If any of you care to check the interview, it's just gone online in almost
its entirety thanks to Shift Magazine - check www.shift.com - and I'll be
broadcasting the interview on my radio show (CKLN 88.1fm) this coming
Monday Oct. 18 at noon which can be heard via Real Audio:
ckln.sac.ryerson.ca Finally (sorry if this seems overboard, but I'm a
huge fan), there's a review of the album that I wrote for the current
(October) issue of Exclaim magazine: www.exclaim.ca, then go to reviews and
either do a search on Peace Orchestra or my last name (Benson).
oh yeah, you may also want to check out a brand new release on G-Stone, the
Keiser Velten e.p.....very dubby, somewhat experimental and fairly good as
well. I've only listened to it a couple of times so far, but am digging it.
ciao for now all.
