I don't have it yet, but found a sampler cassette of it at a recent
Basement Jaxx show. All the acts come from the Los Angeles area (all of
whom know each other in some way) and I've seen some of these groups
perform around town. Though, it mentions "unreleased" tracks yet I can't
explain why the J5 track is exactly the same version on their J5 EP. But
yeah, otherwise, it's cool. Interesting cause, I support it wholeheartedly,
more and more schools are cutting back their music programs, if they have
one at all.
I know for a fact that some of the members of the bands in that compilation
are fulltime or substitute public school teachers themselves, so they know
how it goes firsthand.
A good music education program is also an investment; for example all that
Acid Jazz action out of the Bay Area earlier this decade was partly because
of the music programs in the Berkeley school district in the 70s and 80s.
