The story goes, Acid Jazz was a term invented by British DJ's (possibly
Gilles Peterson?) in the very late 80's as a response to the very big 'Acid
House' movement in clubs at the time. That's probably what you're thinking
about when you say 'acid disco'. It was a somewhat joking term for the style
of music they were endorsing - jazzy, funky beats and breaks, organic, retro
funk... what do you know, the movement grew...
I'm sure some others on this list have more detailed info.. I remember once
reading a history of it, I think it's on the website that Erik Boralv has
for this list.

Hi List,
I'm not American Guy and I don't know what's the answer, too...
but I want to comment that some people used to confuse Acid-Jazz with the
'Acid' disco music I used to hear on discotheques several years ago, 'cause
this 'Acid' word. Everybody of this List likes hearing Acid Jazz and know
very well what's the Acid Jazz Music... But, Who know historically what's
the origin of the 'Acid' appendix to the 'Jazz' word?
As Paul said, is good to feed our Acid-Jazz knowledge!
Best Regards,
Pepe.
