PETERSON AND EDDIE PILLAR COINED THE PHRASE AND THEN WENT ONTO START THE LABEL.
OAKENFOLD WAS DOING THE TRIP IN STREATHAM GOING ALL BALAERIC AND HAD NOTHING TO
DO WITH THE ACID JAZZ SCENE IN '88.
BEFORE THIS THE WHOLE LOT OF THE WERE PLAYING SOUL, FUNK, HIP HOP - DANNY
RAMPLING, JUDGE JULES ETC AND ALL THOSE OTHER PURVEYORS OF SOULLESS DURGE THAT
NOW HAUNTS DANCEFLOORS WORLDWIDE (ie TRANCE).

I interviewed Gilles recently and yes he and one other dj (which he
didn't mention) came up with the term because Acid House was big, (the
term Oakenfold made up) and Jazz/Funk was the alternative but had a good
following...
