Hello. just writing to tell you about an amazing experimental jungle record.
(however, I think it steps outside a jungle classification)

Naruhisa Matsuoka- Hikari-Bright East

I am assuming this is Dj Matsuoka that had that 'excellent bird' 12" on JCR?
The records share the same production company. Anyway, this is definitely
not for the squeamish or faint at heart! The best way to describe it is
probably organic Amon Tobin. I like Amon Tobin but don't really get down
with his stuff (and squarepusher's) on a regular basis, possibly because the
sound is largely electronic. This is a bit different. At times, i have to
second guess whether or not what i just heard could actually happen. The
warm "Tech-9-esque" organs and xylophones combined with the raw snare hits
and snappy hi-hat sounds do something for me that Amon Tobin never has. Yet
it's completely surreal and unpredictable. Keep in mind that it's fairly
varied and some of it is not 'organic' sounding at all. Some tracks sounds a
bit like the darker stuff on the 4 hero Two Pages record. Dark and techy.
But there is a really nice range on here, some tracks including female
vocals. I had to sit with my headphones on and listen to the whole thing as
soon as i got it home. If you don't like stuff that keeps you guessing every
3rd beat, this probably isn't for you. However, if you want to check out an
exciting and fresh new direction in future soul i would definitely recommend
a listen!

peace,

PS. Now that we are coming up on the close of the year i was wondering...
are we going to have a year 2000 list poll? We all slept on it last year.
I'd totally be down to help or do whatever to make it happen. I know it's
still a bit early... just curious.
