dvd audio also stores samples at 24-bit resolution, which actually to most
people is a bigger advantage than 96khz sampling rate, because 24-bit
recording allows greater dynamic range without the use of compression and a
greater signal to noise ratio.

the 96khz sampling rate is supposed to sound better even to non-audiophiles
even though 44.1 covers the range of audio our ears can hear, because the
higher rate better reconstructs the analog waveform without interpolation.

the closer to analog the better i say ;)
