Great New Old Records

I just bought some great records, thought I would tell you all about them.
(disclaimer: yes, I bought reissues, I have no shame... sometimes you just
have to settle for the reissue as it is cheaper than the orig & sounds the
same)

Miroslav Vitous: Magical Shepherd (Warner Bros)
This is an excellent 3 x funky record that's heavy on the spacey synths,
beefy drum beats (lots of breaks!), and heavy bass. Reminiscent of Herbie
Hancock's Thrust/Sextant period, but a little more esoteric..

Doug Carn: Adam's Apple (Black Jazz)
I had been hearing for a while about the Black Jazz reissues, and how great
they were, so I thought I would try one out. It's definitely great - lots of
jazzy beats with funky grooves, even a couple of straight ahead funky
tracks. Over most of the songs are multiple female voices singing positive
uplifting self-assertive messages...

Quartin (Far out)
This is a compilation of songs that were originally recorded and some of
which werent released for the brazilian label FORMA, an early 60's brazilian
label devoted to exposing young artists, which at the time included A C
Jobim, baden powell, victor assis brasil, and Eumir Deodato. This record is
nice, very interesting, though some of the songs cheese out in my opinion.
Highlight of the record is the song "Apocalipse" by Victor Assis Brasil,
which has a funky brazilian beat and a larger-than-life hook that sends
chills...

Mandingo: Prime Rhythm of Life (Studio 2 Stereo)
A great funky percussive record with lots of traditional african sounds &
rhythms mixed with synths & space sounds. I saw a coouple of other reissues
of their recs at the store, and I gotta go back and get those!! good stuff!

Some other stuff I got recently, which I'm digging, but dont have in front
of me to describe in detail:
-High and Mighty: Home Field Advantage
-some remix of a Bob Marley song, it's beautiful house, it's that bob marley
song where he sings "Sun is shining.... I'm a rainbow too..."

Peace,
