The song that you mentioned is "It's a New Day" and while I don't know which LP it was on, there is a smoking live version of it on Love Power Peace, a concert from 1971 that I think is still in print. On Polydor records.

As far as general JB goes, you have to get The Payback (1974) which is one of the top funk albums of all time. Other tight albums from the period include Get On the Good Foot (71) , There It Is (72), Hell (74), Reality (74) and the soundtrack to Black Cesar (73). Don't forget the JBs albums Damn Right I Am Somebody, Doing it to Death, Breaking Bread and the first one, I think it's Gimme Some More or Pass the Peas.
