BIG JOHN PATTON

I just got back from my weekly Lesson with rare groove legend BIG JOHN
PATTON. As you know, he's been appearing hear and there (JVC Jazz w/
Reuben Wilson, some European stops, Dharma in NYC, etc. etc.)

John's been on a creative roll - - just when he thought he'd been all but
forgotten, people are packing in beyond expectation, and the write ups have
been good.

Big John Patton however likes to play where he's appreciated, and there's a
lot of positive vibes - - I mean places where people majorly dig his music -
- because he's really into the MUSIC not just the money. And he really
likes to stretch out in his performances. He actually experiments while he
plays.... there can be a heavy groove and pretty wild sh*t going on at the
same time...

Anyway, the big question is what clubs in your town would appreciate an act
like that... this isn't Jazz for the Yuppie set, but on the other hand its
not drum 'n bass hip hop. I guess more avante garde Jazz rooms that do
both acid Jazz and straight ahead would be ideal (???) If you have some
spots and know who does the booking and artists who've appeared recently,
would appreciate your suggestions to pass on to me as well as names and
numbers ! Its a big planet.

Check out samples of his stuff at CDNOW.COM or AMAZON.COM.

Thanks,

Ed
