PUBLIC TRANSIT RECORDINGS SET TO RELEASE BLUE NIGHT NETWORK CD

New CD from PTR showcases creativity and innovation within Toronto's urban music scene

TORONTO - The second full length CD from Toronto-based Public Transit Recordings, The Blue Night Network, is dedicated to the spirit of the transit system circa 3 A.M.   Upon release April 4 it will transport Toronto's underground music scene to another imminent stop.   Backed nationally by Fusion3 Distribution and internationally by Round Table Distribution, the BNN CD strives to challenge mediocre electronic music and breakdown categories by blending many styles and influences.

Featured on this dark and moody compilation are independent artists from the city and beyond.   Though their styles and influences are diverse, the musicians on The Blue Night Network unify to take the listener on a mysterious journey through the city asleep at night.

Underground artists such as Rainfield, Monochrome, Enhanced, Murr, Genetic, Cold Mission, Altitude, Rosina a.k.a. LAL, Audix,  Moonstarr, Radar, M-Roc Maxelle and Aadm contribute some of their most challenging pieces to the latest PTR release.   Some have called their music hip hop, drum n' bass and techno, but, as co-founder of PTR Kevin Moon states, "We try to draw connections between music rather than separations."

Public Transit Recordings, the brainchild of Kevin Moon (aka Moonstarr), began as a cluster of loose demo tapes that Moonstarr previewed everyday while riding the subway to work.   Unrefined and raw, Moonstarr saw the potential and innovation behind these early demo tapes.   In 1998, he approached the circle of underground musicians and friends and nurtured his vision into Public Transit Recordings.

The first compilation, Code: 416, received heavy rotation on college radio stations across Ontario.   Critics in magazines such as Now, Eye, Exclaim!, and Peace Magazine praised the album and helped PTR gain recognition within the Greater Toronto Area.

Live events, such as the smoke-free Fresh Air, showcased PTR artists and helped raise the awareness of Toronto's air quality.   The second release (vinyl-only targeted at the DJ market) Metropass EP was 100% Canadian artistry and ranked one of the top releases of 1999 by Denise Benson of Eye Magazine and CKLN 88.1 FM.   It was also awarded top pick for 1999 by Prasad Bidaye of Exclaim Magazine.

Prior to release, a 12” with Moonstarr’s “No Compromise” and Cold Mission’s (featuring Mark Mac of 4 Hero) “Shallow Grave” is set to hit record stores.  With both the single and The Blue Night Network CD, Public Transit Recordings continues its fresh approach to the local and international electronic music scene.
