I'm excited about this class. The response has been amazing; we've had to
turn away a huge number of students who wanted to take the course. We're
starting with the prehistory of techno, looking at the Stockhausen/music
concrete/minimalist side of things, but also (in tomorrow's class) the
P-Funk/James Brown/Giorgio Moroder element, before going on to look at the
Belleville Three, acid house, hardcore, dn'b and the rest of it. The last
few weeks of the class will be spent presenting current promoters, DJs,
producers and labels in the LA area.
Speaking of which, for those of you in the L.A. area, there's a possibility
that we might need to bring someone in to talk in these later classes,
especially about production (we have oodles of DJs and promoters in the
class). I know some of you are involved in this stuff, and we could use
your help. (Elson, I won't hold it against you that you went to USC.
:-)).
Thank you, and thanks for the ideas on the elusive "Amen" break,
Dale
