hiya everyone,
As mentioned earlier today, Smith & Mighty are coming back to Toronto on
Saturday April 29 - this time in their Sound System set-up with vocalists
who appear on their K7 album, Big World, Small World. Their show here this
past February was packed and wicked! As a huge fan of their sound and them
as people, I'm really happy to have been invited to DJ on both of these
bills, and to help in spreading the word.
Small plug: look out for the brand new issue of The People Have Spoken
magazine, in Toronto shops now (and going quickly!), and being mailed out
to over 40 cities in North America (plus parts of Europe) for *free*
distribution in record, clothing stores etc. Issue #2 features a piece I
wrote on Smith & Mighty, amongst lots of other great stuff.
As for this send-out.....
This ever-growing list includes loads of you who support our gigs, listen
to my radio show, fellow DJ's, promoters, media, music-lovers... basically,
beat-lovin' headz. If you'd prefer not to receive word of our gigs and
events, please let me know and I'll remove you from this list right away...
no hard feelings. :-) Thanks everyone. Take good care.

They're coming back!!! The legendary Smith & Mighty are returning to town!
Saturday April 29, the bass-lovin' Bristol soundboys step it up and treat
Toronto to a second special evening of roots and good vibes. Early this
past February, Rob Smith, Ray Mighty and Peter D. blessed the Fez
turntables with their distinctive blend of roots reggae, dub, and drum 'n
bass. It was a special evening that left people sweating, stomping and
cheering for more. You want it, you got it. Now, as a special milk.
presentation, Smith & Mighty return in a live Sound System stylee.
They've been touring steadily since the release of their new K7 album Big
World, Small World, and now return with a cast 'n crew of vocalists and
MC's who appeared on the album. That's right, Tammy Payne, Louise De
Cordova and Kelz will also be in the house, live 'n direct, on the mic all
night. Tammy is a Bristol legend in her own right, having been the original
vocalist for Portishead, a Smith & Mighty mainstay, and one-half of the duo
Sissi, also featuring P-head bassist Jim Barr. Louise and Kelz are heavily
featured on Big World, Small World, including Kelz' blazing performance on
the album hit, "Seeds." As for Smith & Mighty themselves, after more than a
decade of steady production, and having forged the blueprint for dubtempo
and drum 'n bass, they've finally been receiving the mad props, praise &
press that they deserve. Longtime fans of S&M or their various offshoots
such as More Rockers, Jaz Klash or the early 3 Stripe posse certainly know
why - now newcomers can as well.
The Smith & Mighty live Sound System will be joined by resident milk. DJ's
Felix, Izzy & Gani, and by CKLN's Sassa'le and Denise Benson. Tickets are
$15 in advance (limited supply at Rotate This and Vice) and $18 at the
door. Doors will open at 9pm for this 19+ event. This is a special milk.
presentation, as part of Fez Batik's weekly 'Izzi Boutique.' It's supported
by Snug, Vice and CKLN 88.1fm.
