Hi fellow Jazz-heads,
I've just got back from seeing BNH on their Leeds leg of the current
(postponed) UK tour. Call me an old fashioned aj-er, but they really blew
me away!
A selection of tunes taken from the albums "The Brand New Heavies", "Brother
Sister" and "Shelter" was played at top notch volume, and lots of mindless
grooving on down ensued. Both the horn section and Ms C Anderson reached
insanely high notes throughout the gig, much to the delight of us all, and
you could see they were having a ball on stage. We were treated to the old
(extended) delights of Never Stop, Dream Come True, Brother Sister, Back To
Love, Midnight At The Oasis, Sometimes, Shelter, You Are the Universe,
You've Got A Friend, Saturday Night, and Gimme One Of Those (but not in that
order).
We manged to get two encores out of them as well - predictably one of the
tunes then was "Apparently Nothin'", but who's complaining? The band was
feeding off of us, and we off them.
A truely brilliant night - well worth waiting half a year to see them!
Carleen Anderson does a good job on stage, and adds her own dimension to the
proceedings.
I personally can't wait to hear the new material (if they ever get around to
finishing it)!
See them if you have the chance, that's all I'm saying!
