Simon Reynolds has a very detailed discussion of two-step garage on his
site, "A White Rave Aesthete Thinks Aloud" (don't have the URL on me:
sorry). Unfortunately, understanding some of what he says is dependent
upon knowing what SPEED garage sounds like, which is, lamentably, yet
another subgenre which has emerged, flowered and decayed without my ever
having heard the freakin' stuff. Basically, he says it's like a mix of
the skiterishness (my word) of jungle or Timbaland beats with garagy
diva/piano stab type sounds over top. Preferred drug of choice for
two-step garagers? Champagne.
