They're not even really comparable even though a few
names/producers (not tracks) appear on both.
They came out at least a year apart (People's Choice
being from late 1998 and Hi Fi Jazz being from late
1999/early 2000).
People's Choice gets a little too "dancefloor-y" in
parts but in a more out-of-place and not that well
produced or interesting way, as opposed to
contributing to the flow and coherence of the comp.
Some of the better tracks tend to (now) suffer a bit
from the awkwardness of those early stages of
development, but it has it's occasional moment (ie
Modaji "Outboard Jeopardy" (original mix)).
On Hi-Fi Jazz, Alex Attias keeps the proceedings
relatively laid back and the beats fairly spliced
up....nothing too straightforward, but nothing too
headwrecking either. Excellent choice of tracks to
maintain your interest and nothing you've seen too
much (or at all) on other comps. Great for the car,
work or at home. The mixing is low key which suits
the style well....no Gatecrasher 6 minute overlaps
going on here.
If you're a DJ, there was a very limited 5 track Hi Fi
Jazz vinyl sampler which you should grab immediately
if you see one because they are difficult to find. It
has some of the best cuts off the CD.
Very high recommendation for Hi Fi Jazz, proceed with
caution for People's Choice.
