It was another super-busy one as we rolled through many a request, loads of
brand new releases (and a few older faves), and ticket giveaways for Soul
on the Streets, Bump 'n Hustle, Mad Professor, Movement w/ Simon Lee of
Faze Action, and DJ Ram at Izzi Boutique. Whew! Jude Kelly dropped by to
talk 'bout 'Soul on the Streets,' a solid, monthly soul par-tay. This Fri.
(28th), SOS teams up with Sassa'le and I at Fez Batik for our weekly
'Soleil Fridays.'
ALBUM OF THE WEEK: AIM's stellar 'Cold Water Music,' a supertight
production of crisp, chilled hip hop beats and lush layers. Guest MC's such
as YZ and AG add their rhymes to the mix; Kate Rogers offers gorgeous
vocals to "Sail," and Andy Turner (aka Aim) himself shines all the way
through with dense, emotional sounds that speak loud & clear. The album was
released on the U.K.'s Grand Central Records at the end of '99, but has
only recently become widely available in Canada (via Distribution Fusion
3). Check www.grandcentralrecords.co.uk for a totally wicked, well-designed
and very informative site. 'nuff chat.... on to the playlist.
