ok...so I've read all this jibber jabber all day long and to be quite
honest I'm alittle tired of it. here's the deal: it's not fair to bash dirk
because he's on the other side of the record store counter. it's not like
he's pocketing all the cash for the records he sells. hmmmm or are u ? ;)
how many times have i read a post like this. "I have been lookin for *band
x* or *dj y* for so long and can't seem to find it. or when is the new blah
blah lp commin out?" and dirk has simply offered up the info that he has.
there's no crime in being a good business man and knowing your customers
needs. I've never heard anyone say "oh I've been lookin for that for 3
years and groovedis has it but i don't believe in record stores or labels so
I'll look elsewhere!" no I've certainly not heard that reply.
dirk provides a service and should not have to justify how much or what he
pays for! do people give McDonals workers a hard time cuz they get free
burgers!!
McD's worker: hi how can I help you?
customer: one cheeseburger pleeze
McD's worker: that'll be two bucks
customer: (whiney) well that's not fair. how much do you pay?
no I've never seen that happen. point being most people don't build their
whole musical library on mp3's. it just dosen't work. people want hard
copies...and no we don't all own cd burners. and some people, alot of
people want vinyl. so the mp3 won't kill the tape, cd, vinyl. BTW whoever
said that an artist would make the same amount of money off of a 99cent mp3
as a 12$ record must go to some new kinda math school that i've never heard
of.
in conclusion, this whole discussion has gotten outta hand. the whole
point of the list is to share knowledge, musical and otherwise, and not to
judge one's job or music purchasing habits.
so with that said folks let's get back to the music!!
joni
ps please excuse the typo's as this was writtin in a psychotic rant state =)
