body and soul's summerstage event is this saturday. last year was fun and
i expect this year to be amazing...there's nothing like thousands of people
gathering to dance in the middle of central park to great jazzy/funky
house. i guess this year it is DJ sets from danny krivit at 1:30 and at
3pm latin legend, eddie palmieri, plus da lata, francois k and more. you
can go to summerstage.com. for the details.
some new releases worth mentioning (I apologize for not having all the titles):
*les gammas - exercises de styles (compost)
*high fidelity dub sessions - the second chapter (guidance)
*ian pooley - since then (v2)
*mr. c - i don't have it on me...i think its titled subterrain (engine)
*da lata's new release (rykopalm)
*groove armada - back to mine (dmc/ultra) this is a downtempo, laid back
funk compilation which is not really not groundbreaking...its actually
mostly stuff this list has heard time and again, but its good to have.
*st. germain - tourist i think its called (blue note), has been mentioned
on this list a few times. i agree its a gem.
* This has been played out a lot, but I also got vinyl remixes of bob
marley's sun is shining (edel)-- brilliant!
* Did i mention i got the loft cd a while back - a compilation put together
by david mancuso. its a double cd and i like the 2nd cd quite a bit.
david mancuso used to throw "loft" parties in new york, back in the day
when people just started taking an interest in rare groove and when house
music began and he became influential to a lot of new york based dj's.
* Most of you will probably not like this, but I'll throw it out there for
those who like a bit of techno and have a wider span...I've been loving
paul van dyk's album titled "out there and back" (mute) and also on that
note, I'll sing praises for Laurent Garnier's latest album on his label, F
Communications.
FYI, i heard jazzmatazz has a new album coming out on virgin.
