yeah Steve, I like this thread also! i have turned more people on to more interesting stuff in just the sort of benign situations that weddings are. I like the suggestions so far from everyone. I think this is the most positive thread I have followed here in quite awhile!

Great thread! I assume the point is not just how to find some thematic
songs, but how to drop in the good shit this side of whack?

Sade? "Turn My Back On You" and I think there's some good remixes of that.
Yeah, I'd like to hear that one, among other of hers.

Not to mention Sweetback w. Maxwell, "Softly, Slowly" a muthafuka of a
superslow jam. (Amel's record isn't that bad either, at least compared to
most wedding shit... and a surprising amount of people know it, too.)

What about D'Angelo? He's got some bad tunes on the bump and grind tip from
Voodoo. Long, slow vamps, with a FUNKY beat. I heard Cut Chemist mix it
in.... Damn, it's about 1/3rd the speed of everything else, but it hits
HARD. And MC Solaar? Everyone's a sucka for a sexy French voice.

On the get up and go tip... a couple of real oldies. Check some of the later
tracks on "At Duke's Place" with Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. He's
got a few that almost have a Fats Domino kinda 12/8 feel the older folks
      will love.

Who doesn't want to hear Billie Holiday? (Hey... maybe they'll do one of
those Kenny G - Louis Armstrong things with Macy Gray and Billie... Oh yeah,
Elson'd be lining up for that shit! --- )

And, Frank's cool, but much cooler in a way is Nat Cole. Not the syrupy (but
masterful) "Unforgettable" or "Stardust" stuff. But he was a muthaFUKA on
piano back in the 40's. Hey some of his shit is 'bout as bad as Bud Powell,
swingwise! The Nat Cole Trio has the silky sounds, but some real jazz there!

And let's talk of Grant Green, Donald Byrd, Horace Silver (Aw shit, it's
      gettin' to Dingwalls, now!)

Anyway, I would like to go to a wedding where DJ T-Bird or one of the rest
of ya is rocking it. How come I never get invited to weddings like that?

(PS... what about the truly warped wedding songs? "Love Hurts" by Nazareth?
Chet Baker? "Oops! I Did it Again"?)
