Keyser & Shuriken - newsletter #30: Real Crowd Pleasers

    Newsflash 16.08.2000

    Dear friends,

it's summertime and even if living ain't always easy it is surely fun
sometimes. Take this last weekend: we had a couple of Norwegians (Rune and
Dag - peace, men!) and a couple of German music lovers to hang out and spin
records with. The German troop consisted of DeLuca & Majbour of Stereo
Deluxe fame (Oli & Sammy, thanks again!) who just came to play at the Jazz
Turbulence festival (4 stages and a whole lot of - mostly jazz influenced -
djs and live acts). Imagine an unused airport at the edge of Budapest, with
hundreds of happy people hungry for this kind of music. There's nothing
like sitting stoned on the endless landing field, listening to Germany's
marvellous Stereotone outfit in the middle of the night, while lightnings
light the horizon and the MCs stop the rain in the spirit of their long
    haired Woodstock forefathers.

This next one goes out to those who feel too stressed out by whatever they
    do:

"I was old, fat and in the way. We were working 300 days a year, my blood
pressure went through the roof and I just decided that I wasn't going to do
that anymore. We were still touring the chitlin' circuit, more or less, and
I didn't want to keep dealing with those conditions. We were pushing things
way too hard. I love the guys in the Aquarium Rescue Unit. But I needed a
change to keep things fresh. I've always believed that if you please
    yourself, you'll please others, too."

    - words of Col. Bruce Hampton leader of the offbeat
    funk-jazz-rock-fusion-and-what-have-you band The Fiji Marines
    (http://www.fijimariners.com/interview.html)

Keep on pleasing yourselves till next week!
