Haven't seen much discussion of this most
beautiful album. I'm turning everyone I know onto it.
The production to me, done by Jazzy Jeff's collective,
blends these languid, soft tones with thick bass lines
and snares. It has what I think we're all starting to
recognize as that signature Philly sound (ie. Roots,
King Britt, etc.) But of course the star is Jill
Scott. Baby girl lays down lyrics from the heart that
open and expose her deepest feelings. It's rare today
to find an artist who is willing to show this much of
them. Mostly, we're stuck with tired, redundant lyrics
written by someone else with very littler effort
behind them. Love Jill's use of poetry and vocals.
Love the frankness she drops on many of the tracks. Go
out and get this immediately.
