But, I've got to say this about Wynton M. He can rock it, I mean swing it,
hard. He's just one of those cats that was born 50 years too late.
Rachmaninoff was like that, too. And, I've got to say Wynton's original
posse rocks, as well. Jeff "Tain" Watts, Marcus Roberts, Robert Leslie
Hurst, those guys on some of those early albums picked up where Miles'
"Nefretiti" group with Herbie, Wayne Shorter and Tony Williams left off.
When listening to Wynton, don't think, "What a pompous windbag this
synthesizer and funk hater is" but just try to listen without prejudice....
When I do that, I think, "that's serious musicianship and some innovative
approach to older music in a classic context," which it is.
