BAO, Dope and fellow Brother and Sister Junkies of Acid Jazz,(if you don't
fall into any of these catagories, then just welcome to the discussion),
I had a question for u guys?
Bring it on!
I know many of you probably detest,
I don't detest it. Hell there is stuff out there that Rocks! and it is
trippy even in the Country Music genre. I have been exposed to this from
Birth being born in the South East of the United States. Bible thumpin' and
Country Music go hand in hand, BAO you should know that given your locale.
but what
exactly is the history of country music.
Okay I took a course in Applachian History and Culture at the University of
South Carolina and this was discussed. A prevalent source of Country music
came from the Scot-Irish who settled here in the US during the colonial
times. The French Canadians injected their vibe too. Country is a fusion
of several cultures, Africans brought it from their homeland, the Euro's
from Europe etc... Just go back and listen to Medieval Music and you can
see the origins of it. See there are several genre's of Country music
within Country. Also I must say that the Latin cultures made their impact
in the genre too. Check out mariachi music and you can see where I am
coming from. Plain and simple it is not a solely a Nashville thing.
Bakersfield, California make and impact along with West Virgina, Lousiana,
Mississippi(Sp?), North Carolina and South Carolina etc.. What struck me
was that Country Music is very popular in the UK, New Zealand and Australia
according to Billboard.
Anyone have any info? who are the
actual first country musicians?
It is difficult nailing down who was first but in this past century here in
America you can say Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, Bob Wills, Robert
Johnson could be considered sources of origins. Ponder this, nobody was out
on the range recording Cowboys singing back in the old days.
I have an
argument with someone, and we need to clarify the facts.
I hate arguments but you can seek help from the Department of History at the
University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC and they can help you out.
One thing I like about Country Music is the way Shania Twain repulses all
the Puritanical Country Music establishment which her provacative Beauty and
she backs it up with a great voice. I loved the way K.D. Lang repulsed the
puritanical Country Music Establishment with her alternative lifestyle and
her vegetarian eating habits. Case in point I love it when artist rock the
boat of Puritanical conservatism.
For any Guitarist out there who are curious about the playing ability of
Country Guitarist check out Pete Anderson of Dwight Yoakam's Band and James
Burton from the old Buck Owens Days. Don't forget to check out Scotty Moore
of THE KING'S band. Happy Trails!!!
Guitars, Cadillacs and Acid Jazz Music,
Pace'
