I kinda figured I was gonna get resistance from my post. Instant
gratification is definitely NOT what I'm after. I listen to alot of
avant-garde Jazz, contemporary classical and overall weirdness, and you can
bet that you need to pay attention in order to appreciate where that music
is coming from. I truly enjoy challenging music which requires repeated
listening and one's undivided attention in order for its full impact to be
felt. I gave "Voodoo" at least 20 listens before giving up on it; it just
doesn't move me. I was hoping that my post would encourage discussion on
these artists and perhaps inspire comments on the overall state of modern
RnB, so I appreciate your reply to my post, Temi, even if we don't agree.
As an aside, I read about 10 different reviews on D'Angelo's latest in 3
different languages, and each and every review said EXACTLY the same thing
and compared his disc to EXACTLY the same sould artists from back in tha
day, no deviation whatsoever. Now, that either means that those 10
reviewers arrived at precisely the same conclusions, or, as I suspect, that
there's some major-league PR people behind this record. To me, it seems way
too scripted to be sincere, but again, that's just my impression. I wanted
to believe the hype, but "Voodoo" just don't do it for me.
