Just been checking the live album "Roots Come Alive" which is basically a
live version of "Things Fall Apart" (with some other tracks thrown in as
well.)
Instrumentation is Rhodes, Bass, and Drums as well as turntables. It's good,
but I wish there were more sounds and colors... maybe some brass or
something.
But, I agree those records you mentioned got soul, and they're super bad. I
also highly recommend Mos Def, Black On Both Sides; it's on a par with the
Roots, I believe...
And of course, if you love jazz, you absolutely MUST have Guru, Jazzmatazz
volumes 1 and 2, and of course Digable Planets, also from back in the day.
