Checked out Tony Allen (Fela's drummer) on Friday, for
the second time and it was even better than the first.
His band has evolved and are tight as ....
For those looking for the one, good luck,
Allenkosonik's proposition is a tapestry of
polyrythmic trap bizness, bad beats from way out and
still knee deep in the funk. You could hear echoes of
Africa 70, but the drummer was the main ingredient.
Keziah Jones was on the stage playing maracas without
a mic. He got on the mic for a tune, singing p-funk
lyrics over the song with a smile so wide I thought
his face was going to erupt. The man was living his
fifteen seconds to the full.
Thursday, checked out Brian Augur who kinda kicked
ass, it was a family affair with son on traps and
daughter singing but they rocked even tho' Jay
(wassup)thought the sound was too close to trad. rock.
They have an album called straight ahead, 71 release I
think with Steve Ferrone (ave. white band) on the
drums, quite exquisite. Check it.
Tunde, that thing u said about Illadelph mirrors my
mind-state, despite the handful of heavy tunes
(Clones, Panic! 1 min of pure genius, the section...)
it didnt quite live up to expectations. However, many
Okayplayers rate it as a classic...
Peace
