Hi friends,
I got a letter this week from Arnaldo DeSouteiro, the Brazilian journalist
and producer responsible for compiling the two TRIP TO BRAZIL compilations,
among other things. He's working on a whole bunch of new projects; thought
I'd give you a quick recap...
March: A new compilation on BMG, featuring rare tracks from Flora Purim,
Raul De Souza, Mario Castro-Neves, Luiz Bonfa, Sivuca, Lobao, and Lulu
Santos.
April: A new compilation on Mr. Bongo, called STREET ANGELS, featuring new
tracks by Luiz Bonfa, Ithamara Koorax, Dom Um Romao, etc.
May: A new album from Brazilian vocalist Ithamara Koorax, called SERENADE IN
BLUE. This is already out in Japan, but will be her first U.S. release, I
believe. It features Deodato, Azymuth, Dom Um Romao, Gonzalo Rubalcaba,
Marcos Valle, and others.
July: A new Dom Um Romao album coming out on JSR (Arnaldo's Brazilian
label).
TBD: A debut album from bassist Jorge Pescara, and one from guitarist
Pingarilho (featured on Dom Um's last album), and the next Ithamara Koorax
album (for Japanese release).
Arnaldo also sent me some CDs, including an Ithamara Koorax album called
BOSSA NOVA MEETS DRUM AND BASS, a collection of bossa nova standards done up
d'n'b stylee. I'll probably be playing this on my show for the next few
weeks. :-)
