Hi Crystal

there is an Research Centre for Popular Music ("Forschungszentrum für
populäre
Musik"), led by Prof. Peter Wicke, at the Humboldt-Universität in
Berlin. Never
been to a homepage of the insitute, but they should have one and
probably there
you can find further information. Currently I'm reading a book of this
guy
called "From Mozart to Madonna - the cultural history of popular music"
(in
german). Basically, he follows a historical-sociological approach that
might
also be interesting for your study. Just reading in the summary of that
book
that there exists an International Association for the Study of Popular
Music
whose general secretary the guy was for a while. I've heard of one
further
Insitute of that kind in Europe which is said to be located somewhere in
Scandinavia - probably people up there know more?!
