Got my copy of Jazzfatnastees' album The Once and the Future today.
Mercedes Martinez and Tracey Moore of this Philadelphia-based duo
have previously worked with BNH, De La, Pharcyde, etc.
The album is close to Adriana Evans' sound, perhaps less pop-like
and slightly heavier beats. All done with finesse and style.
Anyway, this is a very nice mix of jazz and soul that easily makes
my list of top 5 albums of 1999. Just buy!
More 1999 goodies in the same genre:
Angie Stone's Black Diamond. Also brilliant. Great voice and a solid
album.
Shola Ama's In Return. Better than expected I think. Not that
consistent, but still fine. Helps ease some of the longing for new
D-Influence stuff.
