We've been running for 6 years now. Some initial members still are
on, but let's not go there...
I think it all started out with a post from Gregory B. Beuthin on
the news group "comp.music.funky", saying he was going to set up a
manual mailing list for something called acidjazz.
More stats:
The mail archive for 1999 is 12 MB. The archives run back to 1995.
This is the FIRST mail on that list:

Welcome to the first official "letter" of the Acid Jazz mailing list.
This is a *very* basic mailing list- a-jazz-l@uhunix.uhcc.hawaii.edu is
an
alias with 12 names in it. Nothing special; no compiling, no deleting,
no
digests (sorry!!). However, it looks like a there will be a great
information flow- a some from the UK, some from Sweden , and several in
the States and Canada. Now all we need is someone from San Francisco
(Luv' N Haight).....
I gotta go now, so I'll post some more info later. In the meantime, for
those of you starving for info, a far from extensive and completely
subjective list of "good" a-jazz/rare groove/ jazzrap stuff.
BTW- for those of you who have seen this before- I cannot remember if
this
is the updated version. Helpful changes by crawf@dcs.gla.ac.uk by and
large have not been updated. :-( Sorry. I've got the update on PC, but
not uploaded......
Here once again is a far from complete list of things jazzy, funky
and rare-groovy (not to be confused with "Dee-Groovy")
LP- old but still usuable abbreviation for album (Long Playing)
SG- Single
CDMaxi- CD Maxi single, only noted if it said so specifically in
whatever text I got it.
NOTE: I have 3 question marks where my info is missing. Please
feel free to fill me in. I have 1 question mark where I am unsure.
Again, please feel free to correct that, or anything else that's
wrong, or even add to the list. I got my info from everywhere, so
sometimes I'm not even sure if the name of the song is really the
label or what... :-(
NOTE 1.5
If you want to send corrections, send them to
gregbb@uhunix.uhcc.hawaii.edu
NOTE2: This is not intended to capture all the singles that are
out there- just the notable ones mentioned by other people....
Question1: Should Soul II Soul, Stereo MCs, Blade, Gunshot, MC
Solaar, A Tribe Called Quest, Brand New Heavies be on this list?
Question2: I need the 411 (info) on MC Mello, Young Disciples sans
Carleen, Galliano's new effort (if any), final word on Talkin Loud,
Wild and Peaceful (wassup w'dem?), Stone Cold Boners, K-Creative/
Collective and anything else that appeared briefly on a sampler but
never heard of again...
