I think some confusion happens when people make up
terms off the cuff and others read that and think it's
some new genre name agreed upon and understood by a
large number of people, rather than one person's
on-the-fly desccription. I love doing this,
actually!! friends and i came up with "gumby-step" to
describe a short-lived trend of BIG FAT basslines that
go "bwwaauuuhh bwaaauuhhh" over subtle dnb drums that
sounds like it's going to come step on you and eat
you. it sounds like you're looking up at the bottom of
Gumby's foot as it comes down on your head. Ex:
Substance/Dazy: Own Thing on Ruffneck Ting recs.
"Warhead" is a distant cousin but not quite the same.
See? much easier to just say "gumby-step." as long as
everyone knows who gumby is. ;P
