I've stumbled upon two amazing albums that just
have me fiendin for more acoustic mellow tunes...
The first, which I think was mentioned briefly on
this list, is Tommy Guerrero's, "A Little Bit Of
Somethin" on MoWax. He calls it bastard blues. I call
it straight butter. Instrumental guitar driven sounds
flecked with downtempo beats washed with keyboards and
such. Songs are all perfect lengths at 3 to 3 1/2
minutes. Peep "So Blue Its Black," "Soul Miner" and
"100 years." Makes me wanna sit out by a fire and
roast a dog.
The second: Karry Walker, "Lipsbury Pinfold" on
Ubiquity. Don't know much about her except she's from
the Bay Area. Great bluesy stuff with downtempo and
slight jazz influences. I've downloaded three of her
songs and am in the process of tracking this album
down. "Fillmore" is an amazing romp driven by a great
guitar riff, light drums and her definitely unique
voice. "Manhole" is a little softer touch on her part.
check it.
