Well, that's kind of nebulous for someone trying to save a few
hundred clams, so I'll at least weigh in on the Numark TT1. I had
one 1200 & wanted another tt, naturally; I'd heard the TT1 had a
stronger motor, auto-reverse built in, 78rpm, and ±10% on the pitch
shifter rather than 8. All for a C-note less or so, so I tried one
out.
The verdict-- I like it a lot, I'm glad I have a dual set-up, side 2
of George Harrison's _All Things Must Pass_ sounds great backwards,
BUT it feels much chintzier than a proper 1200. Especially the
tonearm, which must weigh 1/3 what the Technics tonearm does. I'm
around 99.99% sure I know which unit will give out first (hint: not
the 1200).
Just go to a shop & play around w/different turntables for a bit.
The TT1 looked superior on paper, but in person it's still pretty
obvious Technics has the field locked up.
