Could the issue have been whether the songwriters/performers (or their
estate) were paid? I don't remember the reporter actually mentioning money
but that may have been his point. Then again I'm sure Deep Forest, Sacred
Spirit, Enigma, Delerium and hundreds of cheesy trance artists never paid
their procured "vocalists" so Moby may have just been following the
precedent.
