as much a i hate to get involved with these unrelated debates, and as
little as i like courtney love, i must say that the woman is making a
great deal of sense, and also stirring up something in the industry
that's gone unnoticed for far too long. admittedly, 45 000 is a yearly
salary that most of us, myself included, would be perfectly happy to
accept right now. but it's an undeniable fact that when she's obviously
*worth* millions, she deserves a fairer share of what she generates. the
same hardly holds true in any other situation -- take professional
sports, for instance. wouldn't there be an uproar if these players, who
were generating hundreds of millions of dollars in income, were driving
around in ford contours like the rest of us (to be sure: i don't drive a
contour...it was just an illustration)??
i used to be strictly against mp3s because of the possible implications
it would have on the artists themselves. as i put more thought into it,
it became clear that the only ones being stiffed by mp3 downloading are
the record labels, who have already paid a fee to the artists.....ie 45
000 per year...
the truth in this generation is that the promotional engine of large
record labels, which has consistently been their only alluring quality,
simply isn't necessary anymore with the capabilities of the internet. of
course this has all been said over and over again, and i won't chase my
tail for the rest of this message....
you get the idea -- it wouldn't hurt to have some sympathy for those
folks who really deserve more than their current share...
just a few cents....
